When my significant other was a child, she used to fight with her brother in the car when they traveled.  One Christmas season, her parents packed the car to go visit grandma and relatives with presents.  They were told to behave themselves or they would not get to go.  Sure enough, shortly after they hit the road, they started fighting.  Her dad turned the car around and headed home.  The next day, when left to head to grandma's again, there were two well behaved kids.  

It wasn't until years later that they found out there was no plans to head to grandma's on the first day.

Yes. And it worked. We were well trained. The car never had to be pulled over.

I was raise Amish...lol. Never heard this because the Amish do not own cars. We did have horse drawn cart, but never heard "don't make me pull over this cart either."... lol. But...really..for us...if we dared to misbehave in the cart...there was no warning like that. My parents would just say..."you got a whippin' coming when we get home". But...my sister and I never got that admonition from traveling in our cart...but my brothers did a couple times....lol.

I've heard it enough to know that my wife means business. I've been walloped a fair number times on the side of the road while on holiday and once on our way home from work. We keep a paddle in the back of the car for these purposes and boy, do I dread when those dreaded words come out. At this time I have to find an adequate spot to legally park, open the back of the car and assume the position there. I am then paddled in a way my wife determines she needs to. Mostly it's a paddling with pants on, sometimes over undies and rarely bare, (though it does happen).

I did hear the threat a few times as a child. My sister and I would behave for a while after it was given. My parents never pulled over.

While growing up back in the 50's and 60's, this threat was commonly used by parents.  It would occasionally result in an actual spanking somewhere away from home, but I think most of the time it was meant to get attention and immediately change one's behavior.  I was actually spanked a few times in a parking lot or other location where it was safe to pull off the road.

It happened once where me and my sister got a few smacks but when we got to the destination it was over the knee for a well deserved spanking!!

My wife and myself heard it as kids but never happened. fortunately.... but we have done a role play "do I have to pull this car over" a couple times. The last time coming home late at night from a race, teasing all the way, we came home by way of a deserted country road we know, and he pulled over, went to the back of the truck, put the tial gate down, bared by butt and gave me a wonderful spanking.... in the cool night air.... it was a lot of fun

It's happened to me a couple times, though only one time did I get honest to goodness spanked.  Although it may not count because I was driving but was given a very stern "pull this car over now" instruction.  I pulled into a rest area and he said we were going to switch drivers, so I got out of the car and walked around the back as he did the same.  I didn't think anything of it except he was irritated with me until I found myself bent over the trunk and spanked REALLY hard.  He was apparently more irritated with me than I had originally thought.  As if that wasn't embarrassing enough since it was along a highway, a bunch of truckers were parked nearby and saw the whole thing.  They all started honking and cheering.
