Age

Would it be appropriate in a person's profile in the "Age" category to make it "Age at Signup"? (I know I have aged since I joined --aged, not matured, I assure everyone.)

You can update your age. I've had two birthdays since I joined, and I updated it each time.

What's different here from on other forums where showing your age is an option is that it doesn't update automatically. Everywhere else I've ever seen that feature, once you've put your birthdate into the system, it updates your age automatically whenever you have a birthday.

^ This is an issue with our forum software. And I agree, every other software has the age automatically updated. It's 2 different inputs that does age.

I hate to be unkind since I get a lot from the site and put little back in but, the software leaves a lot to be desired.  Messages that disappear into the ether and sessions simply abandoned because the screen just never refreshed.  Why not add a button that allows us to contribute to your costs, would that help?

The problem I see with automatic age update is then you need to know the persons exact birthday. Then it becomes an issue of how that data is used/secured. I'm okay with updating every year.

I totally agree with this. I'm sure long standing and regular members would be happy to contribute to improving the site's functionality. The current situation must be very frustrating for the site's owners and developers as well as users, as they must spend a lot of time trying to fix things.

You have to give your birthdate anyway when you join, to prove you're over 18. I'm not sure they store that data, though.

On other forums with an age feature, giving your birthdate is optional. If you don't want that information stored, you don't give it.

they would have to store it in order for it to update automatically... maybe a solution would be just month and year so at most the update would be by 30 days.
