Theme Update [again]

Hello everyone, 

We updated the theme [again] it has a built in light/ dark mode - we are sorting out the colors [and trying to sort a new logo out]. This is just one of the several issues of the slow going site. We're hoping a much more updated theme will keep things running a bit smoother as well as other things we are implanting. This theme should work a lot better on mobile.

I just stumbled on the new theme before seeing your update and thought, neat! 

The light one works for me. If you're going to change the colors, any neutral or muted pastel theme would also work.

A thought: would it be possible, sometime before the final decision is made, to let us see the skins under consideration, and give feedback? Or does the way the theme is being designed not allow for that?

We changed it quickly so that the members who had eye issues see the forum. But we can make several different versions of this for members to choose from. I totally agree that members should have a say! This was done quickly today as it's a skin that works faster on mobile and desktop than the other 2 and was friendlier on the eyes (but still needs much improvement).

I noticed the bedazzling new colors but switched back to default theme.  It seems fine on my mobile so far, but couldn't get in all day prior to that.    Thanks for everything...

I adored the previous pink ? theme, but this white one is SO much better than the black, at least for me. It's easy to read, and the boxes in a rich red color are lovely. It's a keeper.

Oh my goodness-- I just now discovered the navy blue option. I love it, too! Way cool!

I have a question that I'm sure pertains to other members, as well. The "About Me" section of my profile can be read with the navy background, but is invisible with the white background. What can I do to remedy this, so that it's visible to anyone reading it, irregardless of their chosen background color? This issue need not be addressed right away... just when you get to it. Thanks!

I just looked at my about me and I can see it on the white. I then went to yours and it's gone on my end as well.

One thing I notice, is on your page the about me text is in bright white, instead of the default color. Try changing your color back to automatic(go to edit your post, highlight all the text, hit the dropdown by the underlined A and pick automatic at the top). See if that helps. My guess is since its not on automatic, it won't change the color based on theme.....and bright white text is not visible on a white background lol.

@Zhev has the correct answer. As we develop the two modes together the color pallet will (eventually) change so if your in dark/ light mode it's still visible. I have changed your color @Chawsee and it's viewable on both the day and night theme.

I think the blue is great . . . MUCH easier on the eyes.  The site also seems to be loading faster in the past few days.

Could the day theme be set as the default instead of the night one?

As it is, for new people to be able to join this site, they have to be able to navigate the default theme. Dark colored backgrounds aren't accessible to everyone. For me, text on a very dark background can be so prohibitively difficult to read that if I landed on a site with that kind of skin, I wouldn't/couldn't join: it would be too much for me to even navigate the setting up process. And unless I knew for absolute certain that I would be able to select a background that works for me once I had joined, I wouldn't even consider trying. When you land on the default skin and you're not a member, there's no way to tell if you can choose another background, let alone what the other background looks like.

But I've never heard of anyone being unable to read a site with a lighter colored background. If anyone is, please chime in!

I actually do wish dark was default, for me it loads default as day every single time and is blinding and makes it hard for me to navigate whereas the old default brown site was fine. But I also understand the default can't be set off one person's preference

Preferences, no, but accessibility, yes. Is the day version prohibitively difficult for you to use? If you weren't a member, you didn't know you could change the skin, and all you could see was the day version, would that prevent you from joining?

Yes it would; I would not join a site that the only option is light mode because that is not accessible enough for me. Actually there are times I don't come log in because I know its going to default on day before I flip it and can't do it. But I'm a minority there. However, I get that more people find light mode more accessible in general, but it is currently default on day anyways.
