Disappointed ...hate that word.

Recommended Posts

I hate the word disappointed. It makes me feel awful. I have had issues with controlling how much I drink at parties. I'm 22 and I just like going out and having fun.  My mentor said a few sips was okay but to not get drunk. Last night I went to a party ...I ended up drinking more than I had planned and got a little drunk and had a small hangover... He said he was disappointed in me and that my punishment has been extended...it's a bad feeling. Just wanted to share that.

I'm not sure how experienced your mentor is, but "a few sips" is very vague and easy to push. You should ask for more specific instructions--it's common in safe drinking pamphlets to describe things in terms of "drinks", or servings of alcohol. It sounds weird, but a normal beer or glass of wine is one drink. A cocktail might be 2-4. A shot is 1. "Don't get drunk" is a hard rule to follow without a lot of experience drinking, because you won't know how much is too much until you've broken the rule. You could try getting a little home breathalyzer--I don't know how well those work, but I've seen them. They're not outrageous, but they are pricey (same as the cost of an upper-mid range toy/spanking implement)

Now, there's no excuse for having a hangover at your age--no matter how much you drink. Hangovers come from dehydration. Drink some water. Once everyone's had a few beers, no one will notice you drinking water out of your solo cup. Also, you can drink quite a lot without getting drunk by pacing yourself and consuming plenty of carbs.

I spent time as a straight up drunk in my early 20's. It was almost as if getting as close to alcohol poisoning without crossing that line was some twisted rite of passage.

"A few sips" is a recipe for failure to someone with a self control issue. A drink limit if not an outright ban would have been far kinder and much more likely to be followed.
