Had it happen to me, years ago when I was a spanking truck driver. An Alabama brat I had riding with me for a few weeks decided to hide an implement when I left her alone in the truck (at a truck stop) to go visit family overnight. I halfway expected it to happen. Before I left, I hid a very stingy spanking stick with my hanging clothes in a closet.

This was 2009-2010, I believe.

@rubyredd The party was fun but I did not get a chance to play that much. I have a bad back and it really hurt this weekend. Maintenance Spanking
This type of spanking is one that is often discussed, but something I have rarely experienced in reality. I did try it as part of a disciplinary relationship, but it just felt "off" to me.

It all depends upon the definition of "Maintenance" spanking. I guess it can also depend upon spelling too as everyone seems to spell it differently.
Giving maintenance spankings for the purpose of influencing someone's behavior does not sound reasonable to me. But I think any of us who have been doing this long enough know most spankees "desire", "need" or "crave" a spanking with some frequency. That includes those who want behavior modification, accountability and/or discipline. Giving maintenance spankings on a regular basis or "as needed" eliminates the need for them to act out in order to have their need met.

For me, it was explaining to my sister the reason I did not include her in with my group of friends. I finally had to tell her what the types of relationships I had with women and the kind of activities we had when I was having cookouts she was not invited to attend. I finally ended up having to tell her about 18 months ago. Even though it was a relief when I did, she still does not understand it. . but she did stop asking questions.
The reason she is the only family member I had to tell is because she is the only one I live near to and I am close with. I am friendly with the couple who live across the street and they can tell when I have a get together at my home and I never invite them. Actually, I am grateful they never invited me to any of their parties.
So my answer to your question is balancing vanilla life and spanko life. My wife passed away in 2008 and I became single for the first time after being on the internet. My lifestyle definitely change for me.

The school paddle is my most favorite to use. I have had a big interest since I was in school and used frequently. I never cared much for using a wooden spoon. Since it is not flat and provides impact to a smaller surface, a spoon is more likely to bruise. I prefer turning a girl's bottom red to purple. Rulers are usually too light to provide much of a spanking.
Hairbrushes are definitely effective, but I prefer the thinner ones that are more stingy than thuddy. I don't like using actual ping pong paddles but do like using ping pong SHAPED paddles made of a solid wood. Very stingy and usually the spankee is not bored while it is being applied. So

If a spanking gives you relief from guilt, then it was an effective discipline session. I think the conflict many spankos feel is they think they should not find a true discipline spanking exciting in the least, but they do. If that is the case but being disciplined gives you guilt relief and makes you want to be a better person, go for it. Everyone worries too much about their feelings being "normal".

Rarely. I am a 65 tear old, overweight diabetic and my sex drive is not what it use to be. When I was a younger spanko, I really leaned toward disciplinary spanking and had little to no interest in purely erotic spanking. I was DD-oriented, at least in my expectations and what I desired from a long-term relationship. What I didn't wholly consider was that discipline (in the form of punishment spanking) was really not all I wanted.
As a lifelong spanko, I love all types of spanking - but my preferences are heavily skewed toward fun and funishment rather than authentic discipline. That doesn't mean a punishment spanking would never happen, just that it would never be the norm. And since I love spanking, but also respect myself and my partner(s), I am not likely to break serious rules just to earn a spanking. That seems more like a game or roleplaying than authentic discipline.

How much sass is too much? Where do you stand on bratting?
I prefer bratting in its milder forms - clever sass, silliness, teasing or "acting up" just to get spanked. Bratting, to me, is all in good fun. It is part of my spankoness, but easily controlled and not something I share with every spanking partner.
There is a noticeable difference between bratting and real attitude (for me). Bratting is intentional / purposeful - I am trying to get spanked. Yes, I could just ask, but where is the fun in that?
Some Tops don't like bratting at all; other Tops like it in small doses. There are certainly Tops who really enjoy it.
What about EEs? Even brats have different levels of tolerance for other bratty behavior. I have a hard time playing with other brats or littles-who-brat in chat for extended silliness. That isn't really my style of bratty behavior, but it can be fun in short bursts.

It use to be something I enjoyed at parties. More of a flirtatious act as long as the line is drawn in the right place. One of the rules of spanking parties is, "Bratting a Top is consent to be spanked." I normally stay away from more serious topics, but let's talk about consent - which can take several forms in the realm of spanking. Whether consent is implied* or implicit, it has to be freely given. It is one of the foundations of adult spanking - safe, sane, and consensual (SSC).

My fantasies do not involve spankings where there is no consent given. They rum more along the lines of ladies wanting to be spanked for different reason, even if it is discipline and they do not get any pleasure from it. Some want discipline, boundaries, consequences for bad behavior or procrastination.

One thing I forgot to mention. If I am paddling someone I am not familiar with, and it happens more times than you would think, having them count the licks gives me a good idea of their pain tolerance by the stress in their voice.
